Supper in Spain
The setting for our "Supper in Spain" is in the St. Augustine landmark, "Government House", home of Spanish government for over 200 years in Florida. The Salle Room with its impressive stone fireplace, coquina walls, tabby floor and heavy carved doors and shutters is the perfect setting for an evening of good food and great entertainment Spanish style! Sparkling crystal and china on the candlelit tables dressed in crisp white linen and decorated with fresh flower and fruit centerpieces will warm your senses for the repast to follow. We have put together our own La Noche Buena with several delicious courses to creat our "Supper in Spain". From tapas, or appetizers, all the way to dessert and coffee, after dinner drinks and wines are all carefully served by beautiful seniors and senioritas in authentic Spanish dress. The menu varies, but these are traditional dishes always included.
Fromajadas is a tapas of pastry filled with ham and cheeses, a great way to begin. Sopa de pescado y marisco is a fish or shell fish soup is always part of a Spanish menu. Langostinos con salsa rosa, large prawns in pink sauce, esparrago blancos, white asparagus is very delicate in texture and flavor and is a must for any Spanish supper. Cordaro asado, roast lamb, patatas fritas, fried potatoes in olive oil and ensalada varda. Like most Spanish meals this supper is filled with rich dishes, to balance this, a fresh green salad is always available. Then Postre, dessert, a brief pause to catch your breath, the supper continues with Spanish almond cakes, cookies and candies. A glass of sparkling wine, hot espresso, and Spanish brandy such as Cardenal Mendoza, or anise liqueur will wash it all down properly.
No evening is Spain would be complete without entertainment. Our First Person, Maria Casells Pacetti (1763) is anxious to speak of her life in St. Augustine Florida in the 1700's as a Menorcan woman. The Minorcan people were brought to St. Augustine Florida from the island of Minorca by the British in 1763. They were to grow Indigo in the center of the state of Florida, they named their little indigo growing settlement New Smyrna. Our beautiful and charming Maria will tell the tale and sing the songs of the Menorcan people. Classical Spanish guitarists will be providing beautiful music throughout the evening.
